My role as an Environmental Health & Safety Apprentice, involves tracking the preventative maintenance tasks, I put them on a tracker and sort the tasks into different categories (completed, skipped, and not completed). On a regular basis I help perform environmental audits of different areas and write up the findings and how to improve on the findings.
I have learnt how to spot environmental hazards and how to solve the problem. I have also improved on my communication skill, speaking to new people and gaining confidence.
I enjoy my job, as it is different nearly every day, always something new to expect, and always new people to meet. I work with a fantastic and friendly team, who make it more enjoyable.
I feel valued in the team, being trusted to perform tasks on my own, and have projects to look after and complete which are integral to the workplace.
At the start of my apprenticeship it didn't seem well organized, like the team didn't know what to do with an apprentice. But now it is different they know what to do now, they trust me more and give me more challenging work, as well as responsibilities.
My training provider (Bedford College) give me plenty of support through my training coordinator, with help with problems in and outside of work.
Support from work is great, with help from my manager, access to HR Advisors who can give me help and guidance over any issues I might have. As well as help and guidance from the Trade Union.
My salary covers all my costs, with travel to and from work, food costs for my meals, and any social costs I have for a month.
Yes, going to events run by Vauxhall - such as careers fairs, voluntary events for charities. As well as discounts on activities such as gym's football tickets for the home nations.
Yes
It's a great company to work for, they look after you and you quickly become part of the family.
On the whole, try your best in the assessment days, and the interviews - there is a lot of people applying for the job, and only a few spaces available. Just do your best.
