I was working with a team on stock valuations and funds. This involved researching stock information and dealing with spreadsheets and balancing these.
I developed skills regarding stock prices and valuations, and referencing on balance sheets. I also developed my excel skills.
Everyone was extremely friendly and welcoming, and also very helpful. This meant I was encouraged to ask questions in order to better understand my tasks and the wider implications of what I was doing. I thoroughly enjoyed my placement and insight into the company.
My manager was very helpful and appreciative of any work I would do/check for her. Feedback at the end of the internship was valuable and extremely useful.
The programme involves induction days and training before any placement. This meant I felt well prepared and had already met people and had an idea of what was expected of me in future. The communication within the company through instant messenger was very good and made it easy to contact anyone I needed to.
My university provides placement talks and booklets with essential information. The company also provides literature prior to the start date and the training/inductions.
The company was extremely good with providng an informal 'buddy' as well as formal managers and mentors so that there was always someone who would be able to help out.
My salary meets all my expenses but I have chosen to live at home as this saves a significant amount of money, even with the additional costs of transport.
EY provide many opportunities, including a variety of sports opportunities. Many other placement students working there also arranged social events between ourselves so that we could get to know each other more outside of work.
Yes
The atmosphere was extremely friendly and welcoming, with everyone very willing to provide any help/assistance, yet they still gave proper us proper and challenging work straight away - I did not feel like I was there just to run errands as they had me check spreadsheets and balance figures.
Ensure that you research the company and your role thoroughly, as this is extremely useful. Also ensure that you take time to prepare for interviews and for testing processes. Make sure that in assessment centres you appear eager to learn and are willing to socialise with the other applicants; not only does this make you look more attractive, but you could also end up working with some of them.
