My role on site is to help with site care and maintainence, and I help maintain extremely expensive and important equipment. My role is critical to keeping everyone's elecricity flowing to their homes. Day-to-day this involves fixing equipment, cleaning equipment and helping the team solve problems.
I've learnt many new skills, from using various tools, to how to maintain various pieces of important equipment, team problem solving and how to be an efficient worker.
My program can be a bit boring at times, but on the whole it's helped me improve a lot and in reality it can't always be fun and games. Learning how to do a really crucial job is reward enough.
As an apprentice im treated well, and as an equal by everyone on and off site. This makes me feel valued as an individual but also as part of a team.
Sometimes there are courses that were poorly organsised, just simply because they were too long or too short, and sometimes the courses are in the wrong order. But as a whole the programme is well organised.
I recieve a lot of help as I work towards my goals, and I recieve a lot of feedback to help me grow in the company. I would rate the feedback system very highly.
The support that I get from my employer is good, I get rewarded for hard work and study and the benefits that come with the job are really good.
I recieve a salary that exceeds my current day to day costs, so I have money to spend for myself. This is good as it feels like im rewarded for my work.
As of what i've experienced so far, I havent come across any out of work oppertunities. However im aware that community events are often run by National Grid so in the future I'll have lots of opportunities.
Yes
The level of training you recieve, in addition to the good rate of pay, makes this a perfect job to get straight out of school. You feel valued and you know if you work hard and are responsible, you can go far in the company.
My main bit of advice to people applying is to be sensible, act responsibly, and be mature. No one wants to hire someone childish.
