I am an apprentice lift engineer, on a daily basis I attend call outs and carry out maintenance on lifts with the engineer I work with. We deal with customers when signing in and out of sites. My responsibilities as an apprentice is to assist the engineer in finding a solution to a fault and to learn how to become an engineer myself.
I have acquired an nc qualification in Electrical Engineering by attending college through Stannah, as well as completing an nvq2 in Engineering, I have also learned what it takes to be a lift engineer by working with numerous engineers throughout the company.
I enjoy working with my colleagues, we all get on well. I enioy the work we carry out, its a different task each day and I enjoy travelling to different jobs and places every day.
Supervisors in the company make you feel appreciated, when you achieve something youa re always recognised and congratulated.
In relation to the apprenticeship programme my experience hasnt been the greatest, due to supervsiors changing often. Other than that is has been good in relation to training and support.
On and off, training as a whole is good in Stannah, if there is ever any problems there is always someone there to help you along the way. In my nvq portfolio there is resources we can use if we are struggling with answers or jobs.
Supervisors in the branch are always there for support, everybody as a whole in the Glasgow Branch are there to help in anyway they can. You always feel welcome to ask any question.
As an apprentice I think the rate of pay here is great comparing to other industries and companies.
Other than Christmas work nights out and one charitable event (The Kilt Walk), I have never attended any company activities/events outside of work.
Yes
Stannah are a good company to work for, they always look after their own. You face the same problems as you would in any other job, but as a whole I enjoy working here and enjoy coming to work.
Make sure you show the interviewer that you are willing to work hard and can handle the pressure of jobs needing done.
