Higher Apprentice - GE Review

My course consists of various placements split into 4 month segments. My day-to-day work varies due to these placements however i really enjoy this and it keeps me on my feet and learning. I am currently working through various courses to help my educational side to my apprenticeship such as various health and safety courses and I am also still learning about the business.

I have learnt much more about the business and how the business interrelates with customers and employees. I have developed and expanded on my health and safety skills and awareness as well as public speaking and personal skills such as better communication at work and also computer skills. I think I have benefitted from my apprenticeship so far in this respect.

I really enjoy the programme as mentioned in my first answer, the work can be varied due to the different placements i can go into during my apprenticeship. There are placements within the company i enjoy more than others however I did not expect to enjoy every type of work i come across. This better helps me with deciding where i would like to end up within the business.

I feel fairly valued at GE. The employees and supervisors I work with always ensure i have work and i understand what i am doing and ask how i am however in the larger scale i do not feel valued as much as this. I am very happy with my work and how i am treated though on a daily basis.

My programme is fairly well organised. There is some sort of structure to my apprentice as my placements are set out however sometimes these can change the department of where i go to depending on other apprentices and employees within that department. typically it is an organised programme though with varied work.

I recieve a fair amount of support from my training provider. i tend to get feedback on my work and college assignments which i like to get as then i understand where my mistakes are made and i can change these. i am asked occasionally how i am getting on with work and college work from my tutors in a 1-to-1 session so this also helps.

i recieve a lot of support from my employer and they frequently ask me how my college work is going as well as asking me about my current placement at work. They always ask if i need any help and offer me advice to better understand my position within the business and how i can grow from this too.

My wage is fairly good for an apprentice. I understand minimum wage for an apprentice is a lot lower then that of a full time employee at GE. As i work my way up and through the apprenticeship scheme i should get wage rises providing i complete my placements to a good standard and keep up with college work too.

There are a few opportunities offered to us. We have had the opportunity to move around the UK and visit other businesses of a similar industry and also speak to other apprentices or out-of-time apprentices too. We have been sent various emails about work in the local area too which we can chose to offer help too or not depending on what suits the individual.

i would recommend GE because you feel valued by your supervisor and the local educational system too. I am always asked how i am and offered help and supportive criticism too when needed. I feel as though I can speak to a lot of different employees and have also gained a lot of new friends within the company too.

I would say that you need to have an interest in the business or the engineering industry and if you don't think that university is for you then this can be a great option and you also get paid for working as well as your education paid for too. it's a great opportunity.
