The first 20 weeks i was based up at westwood in Coventry, where we covered basic theory and practical work, after this we have now settled into our chosen depots, and working with a team, where we cover 054 testing, points maintenance, and go to faults.
I have learnt about the theory side and learnt about formulas such as Kirchhoff law, ohms law while also improving my piratical skills on soldering, cable testing.
Well for the first 20 weeks i was away from home, which was a new experience i enjoyed , while also working with grate people at westwood and down at our depots.
If you are performing above standard you will receive a positive AAR which is a recognition for your hard work, while also at the end of the first year they will choose their apprentice of the year.
We were giving a program, for where we will be for the first 20 weeks, also when we got back to depot we were giving a roster so we know where we are and who team we are with. Every assignment had deadline so everyone knew when it has to be in.
If you had a leaning difficulty they would give you additional help, also the instructors started teaching as if you dint know anything, to support the whole class.
We have a review every 5-6 weeks where they ask how we think it is going, while also telling us where we can improve. If i needed support i would talk to my line manager, who would then give the right assistance.
When we were in westwood for the first 20 weeks, we had our travel paid for us to get there and back, while also getting 3 meals a day and access to the gym
Up at westwood you could of done volunteering help on Sundays, they also organised charity football match, and some people did the Coventry marathon, we could also go to training centres across the country to meet the people who maybe on the next year scheme.
Yes
It can be a job for life with fantastic opportunities to progress through the company, while also learning skills which will help you for the rest of your life, and to be able to work with great people.
Be prepared to work hard, make sure you can work with people because if you dont 20 weeks away could be quite lonely, and just enjoy it and dont panic.
