I'm an project management and safety apprentice, who will become a health and safety advisor after apprenticeship is finished. Following a framework spending time in every department across site so that every aspect of the organisation is understand, and also attend things related to health and safety (like meetings and audits). Starting to take on some responsibility, and organising my own projects.
Leant lots of new EHS skills and attended training that is relevant to my role in the future. Lots of qualifications with the possibility of new qualifications if enough talent is shown.
I enjoy my apprenticeship completely. I have a really good team and a really good manager who are all looking out for me to succeed and they all really work at making sure that I get everything from my apprenticeship that I can.
Within my team and the other teams I work with I feel very valued however by GSK as a whole not so much. Information is held at the top and not shared to employees sometimes even the public are accidently informed before staff members.
On site everything is organised well because its a good team and a good structure, the induction was brilliant and put together for apprentices to meet each other. However there isn't much structure from training provider, with many apprentices going to different colleges/unis so all have a varied experience.
My training provider is not very well organised, I have had 3 different tutors in 7 months, however it has improved now. There is not much information given to me I don't even know how long my current course it, or when it should be completed. My current tutor is trying to overcome these problems.
I have a network of people within GSK that offer me support. I have a manager within safety, there is an apprentice manager and I also have a mentor on site. I can go to any of these people for help, and everybody else on site is friendly and also offers support.
I still live at home so the salary id adequate for what I need to pay for (car, phone). There is often bonuses and pay rises for apprentices.
Lots of STEM activities and other things to get involved in like company events and days, once a year each employee completes and orange day which is a paid day of volunteering in the local community.
Yes
Good opportunity's, it is a very good company with a real chance of progressing if enough talent is shown.
Take lots of time to complete the application don't do it in a rush really think about answering questions so they are company/site specific. Prepare for the assessment day take time to think about what can be talked about during the interview that will show the different qualities, even just small examples. Also learn about the company, think about where you would fit in and where you want to go within GSK.
