  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a second year fitter at the brough site and am currently based in repair cell , there isn't really a normal day in repairs as every job is different but there is a basic process we follow. when a new job come in to be repaired we have to fill out all the relevant paperwork and documentation. then we set about following the survey to repair the item , this could be anything from replacing rivets to installing new brackets and requires a varied skill set.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • during my time so far I have developed and learnt a wide variety of new and old fitting skills. my colleagues on the shop floor have been very helpful and taught me a lot during my time so far. I have been on other out of work courses like STEM training which develops your people skills and provides opportunities to take part inn other activities.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I love my program and am very happy with the way that it is going , it is a great place to work with a brilliant family like culture. I work with a great team and feel a valuable part of the company. it has exceeded all the expectations that I have had. I defiantly don't mind getting up for work in a morning

  • 4. How valued do you feel by BAE Systems?
  • I defiantly feel like a valued member of the company , although i am only an apprentice my colleagues on the shop floor respect me as a fitter , whilst also always helping me to improve , it feels good to be trusted to do work by your managers and colleagues when doing more complex work.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • the organisation of the program has been very good. from day 1 in the training centre we have always known what we was going to be doing , going forward. and now I am back on site there is a clear understanding of what I am doing. I know who to go to for support if I need it. I am aware of my team hierarchy as they were introduced to me early on.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I receive a good amount of support from my training provider , I was told early where to go to access and help that I could need like websites and people. the general attitude is very positive and I have never had any problems and am really enjoying the training course.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • my employer has always offered good support with anything ,I was made aware straight away who I can go to if I need help in any areas such as NVQ , collage and out of work problems. the general attitude of the company is great and they will always go out there way to help.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • I am on a very god salary for a second year apprentice , it allows me to live comfortably. I live 10 miles from work and still live at home so my expenses are minimal , this allows me a very good amount of disposable income. also my salary progress is very appealing and i will come out of my time on a good comfortable wage

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • outside of work there are loads of opportunities such as STEM events and company activates. the company are always encouraging voluntary events such as total worrier for our company's associated charities. out of work I play rugby which means I have to train on a night but due to the company's flexible work times it is easy to keep up these commitments.

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I have already recommended the company to man of my friends as it is a great company to work for , its a place were you can learn and develop a massive range of skills. the company defiantly look after you offering great schemes such as shares and pension. this company offers great job opportunities and variation within the company and a great working environment / ethic.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
  • when applying to BAE Systems I would advice putting a lot of effort into your application., lots of people apply for this job and its important to make yourself stand out and if you are not the most academic I wouldn't worry as they look at your potential and skills not just the grades. during any interviews I would make sure that you are prepared. it is defiantly worth putting the time and effort into
