As a construction management trainee I am responsible for assisting in managing an area of a construction site. This involves supervising activity and progress in the area and coordinating the work of different trades, while maintaining health and safety standards.
I've learnt many construction specific skills as well as transferable skills in communication, organization and problem saving.
I enjoy the challenge of solving issues in real-time, learning about different aspects of construction on the site. As my experience and involvement in the project increases, my enjoyment increases.
I feel that as a trainee I am very much valued by the emerging talent team and the company as a whole. On site, I do feel that others take advantage of my position as a trainee to delegate small responsibilities that do not aid in my progression. I do feel as though there needs to be mutual effort from myself and those I work closely with to increase my involvement and exposure in the project as a whole.
For the most part the programme is well structured. I do think that a better job could be done of informing my manager and team of how the programme works.
Support is very accessible whenever I have needed it.
Support is easily accessible whenever I have needed it.
All of my costs are covered by my salary.
There are many activities outside work to get involved in. For religious reasons, I would appreciate more dinners/sporting events over the more common drinking events.
