Apprentice project manager, my daily tasks include work within the PMO office which consists of a focus on best practices, ways of working, user acceptance testing, running reports. My project work is based around a live project so ensuring tasks are being completed on time, meeting minutes, presentation decks for team meetings, stakeholder engagement.
When I finish I will have gained a level 4 apprenticeship in project management and I will be APM qualified. I am regularly attending meetings to better my presentation and writing skills. Furthermore there are opportunities for work experience and extra courses for Microsoft office.
I really enjoy the work/ apprentice balance it gives you a chance to work in the real world but also mix with apprentices and work on apprentice programs such as outreach team, digital team and communication team. I enjoy the work I am given by the PMO as it is very new to me due to working in retail previously. The office role ensure you think outside of the box and it improves your skills immensely.
I feel that my manager values that fact that they have the opportunity to help apprentices in the workplace and knowing that it benefits yourself and them in terms of work is a really nice feeling. I am also involved in apprentice teams and feel extremely valued by them and wish to carry on such skills in a later job role.
The introduction to the program was really well structured, you knew the outline of the job role and it prepared you for starting work. I have received support constantly from my line manager, agency and education. Work is always delegated fairly throughout the team and you can always let your line manager if you are struggling too much with the workload.
I am constantly given support from the training provider, we meet regularly for lectures before the exam and receive help for our assignments. I am always in touch with my training provider to ask questions.
My manager has fully supported me from the day I started, they only want the best for you and they make that known. They are constantly pushing me to better myself and are willing to guide us and support us throughout our time here.
My salary met my costs well when I started as I lived at home and travelled to work by car (roughly 15 minutes drive). However now I am in second year and I have just bought a house and mortgage and bills have started, they pay rise I have received will help.
I have been involved in the Brathay Apprentice Challenge since working here which consists of completing a community project outside of work. Furthermore I am involved with the well-being yoga club and also Art Club as I have quite a creative flare which I can't always use in my current job role.
Yes
I'd recommend Unilever as it is an example of a corporate company, it varies from office environment to factories. There are many opportunities available and it is up to yourself how involved you get with your career.
My advice would be to always be yourself, introduce yourself and present yourself in a calm professional manner with a smile on your face! Always be open to all opportunities and never feel disheartened if you don't reach your goal first time.
