My job title is HR CMCO Team Assistant, my role includes setting up and organising team meetings, communicating with internal and external people to hire or promote employees, troubleshooting employee issues and using internal programmes to manage the structure of the business. I interact with people from all over the business including Directors, VP's EVP's and board members. I am responsible for certain files and projects that we run in HR and I am often helping employees with queries they may have.
My IT skills have increased just in general since starting my apprenticeship, I have also been doing my coursework to work towards a Level 3 in business admin. Internally the business have put me on training courses for IT and also working in teams and a "Knowing me Knowing you" programme. My line manager also sets out goals for me to work towards in terms of how I develop my role in my team and is always giving me feedback on how to reach the next level.
Work wise, I am loving the challenge and the idea that no two days are the same. Everyday something different will happen and I will be learning how to deal with it. The team are all very supportive offering me help and guidance when and where I need it. The company culture is friendly and open the offices are fresh and nice to work in which makes the job nicer, it has exceeded expectations and I really enjoy my job!
Unilever make you feel valued straight away, from when I started in September and I was immediately made to feel welcome. My manager and I have a good understanding and she regularly tells me how valuable I am to the team, I am also getting positive feedback from other people in the business and I am fully involved with everything my manager is involved in.
My induction was clearly laid out and I had a clear understanding of what was going to happen. Training is very informative with the way they inform you of when where and what you are going to learn on the training. Support is structured well with many points of contact available. Everything within the business such as meetings and progress reviews are organised well and there is a sense that everything is organised well.
My Training provider give a good amount of support when needed and are quick to react if things are not being resolved. Marking times for work are good and quick. So far my training experience has been mixed but when things have not gone as planned they have reacted in a good timely manner and I am currently on course to finish the training on time.
My employer is incredibly supportive. They are good at accommodating my long commute and have been very understanding of what an apprentice is and allowing me to choose my workload. My team are also understanding of the requirements and time needed to put into an apprenticeship. My team are also very good with explaining basic things to me to help build experience in the workplace.
I am comfortably getting through my apprenticeship with the wage I am on and I have very high train costs, the agile working means I can save some money by working from home 1-2 times a week, saving me money. Lunch is also quiet cheap for London prices so this also helps.
I have been signed up to do many programmes within Unilever that extend out into the community. I have had the chance to go to internal events and also things such as the Brathay Challenge - volunteering at a food bank. I have also been involved in world food day and Dove day - helping boost young people’s self-esteem. There is also the gym that I can use before or after work, free of charge!

Unilever is a great company with large opportunities. I have really enjoyed my time here so far and look forward to the second half of my time, I feel valued and I also feel like I am constantly developing as a person and career wise also. Therefore, I feel that anyone who is interested should apply and see where it takes you.
I would recommend doing your research on the great history of the company and to come into to the process with an open mind and confidence. The process is not easy but with the right mind set your potential will shine through. process is not easy but with the right mind set your potential will shine through. I would say you get from it what you put in and just enjoy the experience and even if you are not successful then use it to learn.
