on a day to day basis i am processing documents on various databasis as well as changing reports and having team briefings and learning new skills from different employees. I joined in 2014 and my apprenticeship is 4 years long. my work changes depending on what department i am in
i have developed my computer skills by using various new databases and website such as a CAD package and databasis/shared drives between different departments. I have been on a few training courses for health and safety and security too. These were manditory when we joined BAE Systems.
i really enjoy my programme as work can be varied, you meet new people and employees and the atmosphere is really positive everywhere you go. I enjoy all the work i do and i know that if i need any help i can always ask my suepervisor or an employee i am working with/for.
i feel really valued here as we have been told that 'apprentices are the future' of the company and we are cared for by our apprentice leader too. We are always asked if we need any help and if the work we are doing is suitable for us and the skills we have.
really well organised, the departments and supervisors know in-advance what apprentice they will be getting and the dates in which they will have that apprentice for. It is our apprentice leader's job to organise the departments but the supervisor in each department's job to organise the work for us.
We receive quite a lot of support from our HNC tutors at college. although we only see them once a week for day-release work we often have meetings for one to one chats with our tutor and to check our progress on the course and we are always asked if we need help with any work etc.
our apprentice supervisor at work is really supportive and helpful, we couldn't ask for a better supervisor if we tried. We usually have a weekly visit from him and he always checks we are up to date with college, we are happy with the work and we are generally doing alright.
the salary we are given is really good considering minimum apprenticeship wage is so low. As we progress through the apprenticeship we tend to get wage rises considering our NVQ and HNC work are up to date and complete for that course year. I would not expect to get our salary before i joined.
I am a STEM ambassador and we are offered opportunities to help out with local schools and help organise school visits to our site at BAE. With the STEM scheme, we teach children and inspire them with our products and engineering opportunities. We had a visit not too long ago from a school where the children went on the flight simulator on site.
Yes
I really love it here at BAE Systems I could not have asked for a better atmosphere, apprentice supervisor and employees. I have gotten on with everyone i've worked with and even if you're a technical, mechanical or electrical engineer there's work for everyone
If you are thinking of applying for BAE Systems I would definitely say it's worth it. We have my applicants each year for the apprentice scheme which shows it's popularity. the college work is useful and you are paid a very good wage for an apprentice. Highly reccomended
