I am an essential banker in Barclays. My role is to ensure smooth running of the branch in processing side of things (back of house), as well as serving all the customers in line with Barclays 5 star plan.
I have learnt and developed a lot of skills during my apprenticeship programme and working for Barclays. I have developed my skills around customer conversations and general interaction with customers, as well as the whole theory of working for financial industry and the laws and obligations that come with it.
I enjoy this programme as it allows me to work and meet different people from different backgrounds and life situations. This programme allows me to gain experience in a industry that I would see myself in the future but it also provides me with knowledge that is necessary to progress.
I feel pretty average when it comes to Barclays valuing me and the work I do.
I think my programme is well structured and it involves everything that can come in as a tool now or later on in my career. However on that note it would be nice to see a bit more involvement from Barclays around the programme that I am taking part in.
I receive a lot of support from my training provider when I need it or/and I am struggling with a given task. My assessor Joanne Bradley, is good at her job and provides guidance in an clear form which makes my work a lot more straight forward and allows me to see my goals in more achievable light when I am in doubt.
I would like to receive more support from my employer, it would be good to see Barclays being more involved with the whole apprenticeship scheme. Receive time off work to complete my apprenticeship work seems like a big challenge when I think it should be treated more as a priority by Barclays. The general attitude towards my programme seems to only matter after my assessor has been in and all the work has been completed.
I think my salary meets my costs as someone who is living with parents. As to the location is great as it is a walk down the road for me however I wouldn't see myself in Barclays in future if I had to make a living out of this wage on my own and it does not seem to reflect on how much time and work essential banker do for Barclays.
There are no opportunities outside of work. There is not much to do within the company that would be close to where I live and there isn't much to do outside of it.
Yes
I would recommend because it's a good start to a career, can give you a lot of experience and it's very character building. As well as the wage is good for someone my age.
You have to be confident in yourself. You have to stand out and not allow yourself to be lost in the crowd. Believe in yourself and don't worry, if you don't get the job today, you can always get it tomorrow.
