My job title is Manufacturing Apprentice, On a normal day I will go into the factory and run a packing line, fix and problems and carry out maintenance on machines, I work closely along side the people who's job I am training to be.
I started this apprenticeship after leaving high school, I had never had a job before until starting here. during the apprenticeship I will gain 3 qualifications including, 2 level 2 qualifications in engineering and a level 3 in business improvement techniques, since being on the apprenticeship I have also gained my forklift license.
what I enjoy most about the programme is working in a team, there is always someone to work along side me if I am ever stuck and also gives me the opportunity to shadow them and learn there skills.
Within Unilever, I have constant reviews within college and the workplace, this makes sure that I am on target and also set targets, this makes me feel like I am helping then company perform better.
My programme has a timeline of what I should be doing and when I should be completing it, so that I know what I should be doing each day.
There is always support when I need it, if I do not need help they will watch me from a distance allowing me to learn myself but if there is something I am struggling with they are always there to help me learn so that I can do it myself next time.
The employer is very supporting, I have regular meetings to check how comfortable I am and to see where my next steps are.
The salary I am paid covers all of my costs and also allows me enjoy myself outside of work as well.
There are many opportunities outside of work.
Yes
Because you're treated like an adult and don't feel like an apprentice.
Be confident.
