During a working day I regularly complete both practical and theoretical work which is interesting and often presents a challenge for the employees and allows me to push myself. during the day I have various interactions with experienced people who are well practiced in my field of work.
Since I started at DSTL I have vastly improved and developed my engineering and manufacturing skills. Since Starting my apprenticeship I have gained qualifications that will be always beneficial in the future such as first aid, health and safety and internal learning.
I constantly enjoy work because it is in a field that I would like to work in and that I find interesting. I also enjoy working with my team as the group has bonded strongly so we complete our work efficiently and enjoy it as we complete it.
As an apprentice at DSTL we feel respected as an apprentice and feel like a valued member of the team and are often given recognition for when we perform well and show commitment to our work. we often are told how important we are to the company and the opportunities an apprentice can enter into.
Our training programme is very well structured and the tutors all seem well prepared and committed to the lesson and practical sessions. During our training we are always busy and working on interesting or important tasks that keep you interested and committed to the tasks.
The Tutors are all willing to give you support when you ask for it or will offer support if they feel that you may need it. This insures that you can perform to the required standard consistently and effectively allowing for better performance.
DSTL offers allot of support to its employees such as a HR team which can offer assistance for most issues and advice for employees. We get constant updates from our manager to ensure that we are happy at work and allow us to raise any issues or items of concern.
As an apprentice who has moved away from home living can be costly and travelling back home can get pretty expensive. However I can cover my costs with my pay but I don't tend to have much for personal spending.
There are many activities that DSTL put on for the employees such as social events and sports clubs such as running a cycling. they also do community activities and family days for the people employed at the main sites. DSTL also do many activity days and charity events.
Yes
DSTL is a good environment for working within and is a very friendly community to work with and it is very easy to make friends with the people that work there and the skills that you gain from the apprenticeship have been invaluable and will be usable for the rest of your life.
When applying for a job at DSTL do not be hesitant of working there because the lack of information about your job may be concerning but the work is very interesting and very enjoyable to work at.
