My role is a technical apprentice, and I spend 3 month placements in different areas of the business. Day-to-day in my placements I interact with the people who are in the area, and someone is assigned to give me work to do. My responsibilities vary based on the area, and there are multiple projects that I work on.
Through the apprenticeship I have almost completed my level 3 BTEC in engineering, and I have also gone on various courses including a requirements course, and also a soldering course, that now means I can solder up to class 3.
I enjoy my programme, as it gives me a good idea to how everything is done in the different areas of my company, and I enjoy moving about working with new people in new areas. I find it lots of fun
I feel very valued by Leonardo, as the work I am given by my colleagues is always proper tasks, and none of the work given to me is just to keep me busy, it always affects a genuine project
The apprenticeship is really well structured, and there is a whole training programme in place to ensure that all of the things we need to learn are done, like health and safety or manual handling. We are also given time to ensure that all of our college work is met, and the tasks are delegated to use in a sensible way.
We are given lots of support with our training, and they always seem to be able to fit in additional time to ensure that the work given to us is easy to be fitted into our normal working hours.
Through the apprentice manager we are given lots of support, and they guide us where we are going wrong, and ensure that we have a mentor or someone to talk to, who can help us out if we need.
The salary we are given covers all of my monthly transport and living costs, but like any job it would always be nice to be paid for what I do. If any work-related trips are required, these are paid back in expenses, so this keeps the costs to me down.
There are lots of different opportunities outside of work, this includes STEM activities, some local community work, and various other committees you can help on, like the charity committee.
Yes
It is a very easy going workplace, and all of the people here are kind, and help you out. Also, the work you do is supplemented by lots of training, and support to ensure no work is overwhelming.
There is mainly a three-part application process, the first being an online form, where you just need to get as much information down as possible, next is some generic online tests, and the last part is an assessment day, the main part of this being an interview. At this interview, it is best to bring a good project you have worked on before, to ensure that they can see you are interested in engineering.
