My job role includes 4 days per week in placement and 1 day per week at university. I have been working with model-based engineering systems and software in my first placement.
I have learned through others and self teaching how to use (although only basically as of yet) a few types of model-based engineering software. Also I have developed my presentation skills throughout work and university
The first six months were very good for team building and making friends with everyone else on the course, and it is a good stepping stone into work life. In work it is good to feel valued and part of a team so early in my career
I have been given work to do that is important for the company, I am trusted and feel valued, the degree being sponsored also shows that the company feels it I worthwhile to train me and keep me
All future placements are currently set out so I have a good idea of what I may be tasked with in the future. Regular performance reviews leave me a good way to plan for ways I can improve moving forwards. Regular informal chats with managers reviewing my job and life in general also help
I am currently working closely with my training providers and they are readily available to support me if I feel I require more than I am given. I am allowed time to complete my college / university study and stretch assignments if necessary also.
12-week reviews and informal chats with other course leaders help me progress. I am given an insight into what I should be doing / what I need to be doing. Members of the early careers team are available some of the time to speak to regarding any concerns I have.
The salary is suitable and it encourages people to travel and live away from home to work, as I have done due to it being higher than most other apprenticeships. I do feel however that with the cost of living in central Preston being quite high, and having to live there due to access being required to 3 working sites, coupled with high travel costs, the high wage is definitely required
Warton site has facilities for sporting activities outside of work, however I feel these activities aren't very well promoted, we have just seen the introduction of the first EDAS team which is a step in the right direction for the sporting/team activities. In terms of travel the company offers a lot of chances for work-related days away, leaving the overnight stay at night to yourself
Yes
The company is huge, it is at the leading edge in aviation technology and offers an excellent job role for an apprentice. Also the company offers many benefits, such as shares scheme, a good pension scheme straight from the start, health care on-site, discounted retail schemes, credit union, job security, good pay etc.
Keep a positive attitude towards work, it can be rewarding. The scheme is the best way to get a degree in my eyes, and you'll come out of the degree with so much more experience than anyone else coming from the same degree, and with no student debt!
