I'm an engineering higher apprentice working in the Civil engineering department at Portsmouth Naval Base. My job is to ensure the base is in a working order to ensure we are able to look after the Navy's needs
I have learnt lots of news skills why doing my apprenticeship, people skills, time managements as well as communication skills which are important.
I really enjoy my programme and have even recommended the apprenticeship to friends at home as I think its a good apprenticeship and a good experience.
I feel very valued by BAE Systems, I don't feel any less than any other people in others roles. Managers treat us with respect and help when needed.
Overall I think the programme is well organised and can't moan about it at all. There are always a few issues but I think these get sorted as soon as they arise.
I receive as much support as I need from my training provider, If I need anything I go and see the and they help me out wherever they can do,
I have an assessor and a manager that are always there if I need them. Either by email, phone or in person. They have always helped me when I needed help.
I think the salary is great for an apprentice, living on the isle of wight it does cost a lot to get to work but this is where the extended pay helps
Yeah there are always opportunities to get involved with outside of work from company events, social and various different challenges to challenge ourself.
