My job title it engineering maintenance apprentice, my day to day routines vary depending on what work there is. On a quiet day I typically do checks on machines or work on fixing certain defects. If there is an outage on I will most likely be on it doing either electrical or mechanical work.
I am now currently qualified in electrical and mechanical maintenance at level 2 and am working on achieving my level 3. I have learnt many new skills, personally I feel my peoples skills and communication skills have improved since I started my apprenticeship with the SSE.
I enjoy my programme for a few different reasons. the first being that I like the people I am working with and enjoy working as part of a team. secondly the nature of the work I get involved in interests me and I enjoy learning about different pieces of plant.
I do feel valued by SSE, and feel when I do a job the right standards I am praised and if I do a job not to the correct standard the help is there for me to improve.
I think that the programme I am in is well structured and that there is a clear pathway for me to follow.
from the college itself I feel as though there could be improvements however my thoughts have been voiced to my manager who is working on things being improved.
my employer I feel offers me plenty of support and I do not feel that I am never able to go up to someone and ask for help.
My salary meets my costs fine and have no issues not being able to afford anything I require.
I am aware of opportunities outside of work through the companies website, however there is not that many in my area or near where I live.
Yes
I have recommended a friend to SSE and they did get the job. The reason I recommended them is because I know it is a good apprenticeship to get into and in the area I live it is one of the best to get.
I would advice anyone to just be themselves as when you get to the interview stage they want to know what kind of a person you are. I would also advice to look into SSE learn about the different areas of the company. I would also advice not to get stressed over the assessments and not to rush them if you aren't going to finish them.
