The higher apprenticeship involves undertaking multiple roles around the company within the Project Management function. On a day-to-day basis this includes interfacing with customers, developing plans and schedules to drive the business and project monitoring and control.
Through day release to college I have built my theoretical knowledge of project management and leadership while on the job a broad range of skills has been developed. Including time management, influencing and standard project management and control techniques like EVM.
The movement around the business is very interesting and allows for a broad exposure to different business practices. The requirement to learn new things is enjoyable and although the ability to enjoy the programme depends highly on the team that you are embedded into I've found this has been predominantly a good experience.
Good work is always appreciated, although some managers are better people motivators than others. The Company's overarching benefits allow new employees to feel valued especially compared to other organisations recruiting.
The programme has matured since I started and seems to have a robust mechanism for support and moving people to the appropriate placements, while the coordination between work and college could be improved to ensure agreed positions are communicated out to stop confusion.
Tutors are helpful in providing support and are very knowledgeable in their areas, this has improved during the later years. During the last year especially guidance has been very well received and has helped my learning a lot.
Line managers have always been very supportive of the college work, allowing extra time if required to support my academic education. From a work perspective there has always be support to improve myself to achieve my goals.
Very well, the salary is very competitive compared to similar roles in the area. It is able to cover all living costs as required while providing useful benefits in line with other employees.
There is always lots of things to get involved in outside your day job, as part of the company's sponsored charities, stretch assignments as well as clubs arranged by other employees.
