Engineering Degree Software Apprentice - often involves designing and implementing Java code for a given problem scenario.
I will achieve a degree on the completion of the course. I've also learned how to programme in multiple different computing languages, and to design and test this code.
It's often very difficult managing both work and university at the same time. This often leaves me with little time of my own. However, I've really enjoyed learning the topics included in our course as I have no previous experience or knowledge of this.
Sometimes the apprentices can be generalised and not given specific credit. Others times, achievements can get overlooked but, on the whole, I feel very valued by the company. As apprentices, we also get the opportunities to go to awards evenings which can be used to show the company's appreciation.
As this course was new when we started, in the first year of the course some things felt a little unorganised. However, it is starting to come together now as we have worked towards making the course better.
For our university course, the lecturers are always there for whenever we need assistance. Likewise, our NVQ accessor is very good at recognising us and supporting us.
The company is very helpful in making the working environment as supportive and comfortable as possible.
Our salary is very sufficient and helps to recognise the amount of work we have to put into the course.
There have been a few past company events, such as the staff party. There are also multiple charity fundraisers and sports classes.
Yes
The apprenticeship scheme is very good and is a much prefered option than going to university.
Preparation for the application process is key to helping you through the process.
