  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Either at college learning in the classroom or in the office working as part of the team. Depending on where you are, what you could be doing in the office could be vastly different from day to day. Recently I've done everything from Code to Safety Documentation.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Plenty! I am studying towards a foundation degree in computing right now so I'm learning all the skills necessary to pass my modules. Work is the real teacher though, where you learn the values of being proactive, liable and pragmatic.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • The program is demanding but rewarding. As first years on a new scheme there are some hiccups and there was no existing apprentice culture beforehand for socialising.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Within a local project I receive all the support I need with regards to day to day activities. Line managers are extrememly useful and will help up to the limits of their abilities to do so.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • The salary is very generous and covers my day to day needs.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are as many opportunities as you look for. The company offers a little training grant to all employees for a non work related training course. There are lots of work socials going on. Lots of opportunities to help out at careers fairs and bring your child to work days.

  • 9. Would you recommend BAE Systems to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Any issues we have had throughout the duration of our apprenticeship are being addressed and improved. This shows a great attitude towards providing a great apprenticeship scheme from BAE Systems. The reward is great in terms of pay and personal development. I've certainly learnt a tonne. The office im in is just genuinely a nice place to work.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
  • For the software field any extra circular activities will go a long way! be enthusiastic at the interview and contribute to team activities. The offices are generally very in touch with apprentices, most of the employees having been ones themselves, so talk to people and exchange stories, you'll learn loads.
