  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am doing a HR Apprenticeship which involves 3 years of 6 month rotations where I changed roles within HR every 6 months whilst studying for the CIPD Level 3 and 5. Barclays provide great support allowing us 12 study days a year and off site workshops to study. My past few roles have been as a change advisor in Employee Relations, my second role was an a product owner for HR Operations and I am currently in Diversity Inclusion as a D&I Analyst. My day to day role includes analyzing data, submitting benchmarks, doing minutes and creating reports.

  • I have learnt so much about the financial world and how a bank works. I have developed my confidence and people skills and learn about processes, policies and learn at lot of knowledge through my studies.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my current role and I am not sure what my next role will be which is always very daunting having a new manager, team, job role and different working pattern in terms of working dynamically. It can be challenging at times with deadlines and the environment of working in Londons global head quarters.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Barclays?
  • I have felt a different value at Barclays throughout my different job roles hence why I have rated this a 5. Some roles I have felt undervalued and overworked and some I have felt highly respected and valued. As an apprentice I feel we get a lot of respect but not enough recognition.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I like having a 6 month structure of roles however this isn't always the case depending on your PD Rating which isn't always correctly communicated. As my cohort are the first ever HR Apprentices, things are still setting stone so can be frustrating. I like the structure of the qualifications which allows us to finish 6 months before the apprenticeship ends

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • Not much, the work is quite independent like it would be at university so it is not unexpected. They will help you with any problems to an extend but they like you to be independent.

    4/10

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • a lot from the employer. Managers are always passionate about the apprenticeship programme and want the best opportunities to develop our skills as much as possible. We also have a programme management team for support.

    9/10

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • the salary is good for an apprenticeship at my age however is difficult to live off in London. It can be done having a comfortable lifestyle on the salary however I would not be able to have any savings.

    6/10

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • This apprenticeship has lead me to the path of success, internal and externally. Barclays have a vast amount of opportunities for us waiting once we finish the scheme such as the grad scheme or a full time role.

    10/10

  • 9. Would you recommend Barclays to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It has a lot of opportunities, good salary, great people and offices across the UK. Also if you refer a friend to a job, you get £500 :)

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Barclays?
  • Research the values. Look professional. Be yourself. Be prepared.
