My role and main responsibility is to plan the T-45 build and monitor its progress, reporting on efficiencies and costs. It is crucial for me to understand the build and use my knowledge to reflect this in the plan. I am also the planner for Stage 1 of the Hawk aircraft so I have a lot of responsibilities and challenges to live up to.
I am learning new skills everyday, in terms of technology and engineering knowledge that gives me more independence when producing plans for the aircraft or challenging the team about achievement or costs.
I absolutely love the programme and I am so glad I made the decision to apply for the apprenticeship when I did. It has been the best career choice and I hope that it will continue to teach me new things once I come out of my time as an apprentice.
I feel very valued by my team with the large responsibilities that I am given on a daily basis. This shows me that they trust my ability to execute these tasks to a high standard.
The programme is very well structured, giving the apprentices time to complete NVQ work and our daily roles comfortably alongside each other. This allows maximum learning and development.
I feel as though I have received an extremely high level of support throughout my 2 years on the apprenticeship. I have recently come across a difficult time in my life and they have been brilliant in accommodating this and ensuring that my welfare is looked after.
As stated above, I believe the support from my training provider has been exceptional. However, I have had a few bad experiences with the occupational health department which I feel could have been handled better.
I believe that the salary is correctly aligned to the apprenticeships and increases at a sensible rate.
I have been involved with lots of opportunities outside of work, such as the together charity scheme and helping out at St Catherines Hospice as part of national apprentice week. This opportunities are given to us all the time which I think is a brilliant way of promoting the apprenticeship and allowing learning and development.
Yes
It is a fantastic apprenticeship that offers a wide variety of learning, career development skills and knowledge that can be carried across all aspects of the business.
I would advise researching the company and learning about BAE Systems values. It is also very important to BAE Systems that an individual can communicate and become an effective member of a team, so any extra curricular activities should be advertised!
