My role can vary but can generally entail working in a small team alongside more experienced colleagues working towards the completion of an audit. This will mean speaking to clients to gain information and then performing testing on various figures that make up the financial statements.
My communication skills have improved as I am constantly working with new people and having to work together efficiently in a short period of time. They have also improved as a result of my interactions with clients as I have to adapt my method of asking for information to each client. Also my skills on the various different office programs has developed due to the daily use of excel.
The culture is a strong one at Grant Thornton as it feels like one large team. The various social events helped to initially integrate me into the company and have since allowed me to build up relationships.
I feel very valued at Grant Thornton as work is recognised as your own and as such it is satisfying to get the results wanted. Due to the various opportunities if taken you can be rewarded.
The programme is well structured with a very rigid start with lots of training to try and get you to a high standard from the start. By being assigned a buddy before even starting and to have a people manager who is willing to help from the start it is clear who you can seek help and advice from.
Support is available from tutors and older colleagues. There are a number of ways to seek support from the training provider so this has never been an issue.
Support is there if required, any problems that come up can be solved from a variety of different means which allows for flexibility and to feel comfortable to seek the support.
The salary far exceeds my current costs and any extraordinary costs are also reimbursed so this is not an issue.
There are plenty of opportunities outside of work with volunteering opportunities, social events and sporting activities constantly being advertised through emails.
Yes
It has allowed me to progress at a level where I feel challenged enough to develop but there is still enough support available to allow me to not become stuck and overly stressed.
To take as many opportunities as possible, both inside and out of work. To not be afraid to place reliance on the support network available, with the buddy given to you before starting and at any careers events take the chance to speak to them and ask as many questions as possible.
