I am an aspiring aeronautical engineer and at the moment I am just learning basic level 2 engineering skills. I will not know what my role in the business is till July so cant really comment.
Yes I have learnt skills in all sections including hand fitting techniques, electrical and electronics, Carbon fibre lay up and fitting, CAD design and fabrication.
I really enjoy the programme so far its long days but days full of learning and developing skills that are needed for the business.
Same as before we are only in the training centre at the minute learning the basic skills and not actually on the job so all will become apparent in july.
We get enough time to fit in all write ups and college work in between practical job assessments. Although it is active learning it works really well and I thoroughly enjoy the structure of the apprenticeship so far
The training provider puts on after work revision groups if you fall behind on assignments but the teaching has been so good I have not had to use it yet.
The employer provides all the practical training on the course and I have nothing bad to say about it. We have 3 monthly reviews with the training manager to air any issues we might have and to track progress.
The salary is really good for a first year apprentice and continues to rise with each year through it. It just about meets my cost this year having come from another job but I will receive a pay rise year after year.
Yes there are activities advertised through emails or posters around the training centre all the time. you just have to apply for them.
Yes
The training I have received has been top quality and I feel confident for next year entering the business. The opportunities are endless with BAE systems.
Just be prepared. Revise for the tests, prepare for the interview knowing your project inside out and just be confident and sell yourself. Also don't worry about being an older applicant like I did as the age range on my course goes from 16-25.
