In the first year of our apprenticeship we learn new skills to take into the company, we learn different aspects of aircraft engineering, including; fitting, electronics, machining, CAD, fabrication and carbon fibre laying up. We then move into the second year to do certain placements on different aircraft. We learn new skills as we move onto the second year with hands on experience.
I have completed different training programmes that I haven't done before, these give me new practical skill, in college we have learnt about the mechanisms behind the aircraft which I did not know before giving me knowledge skills.
I enjoy the apprenticeship and would recommend it to people who are interested in engineering, it has a lovely environment and you can have fun while you learn.
I feel valued by BAE systems because we are the next generation coming into the business to give new ideas to help the business.
the programme is well organised, the trainers are experienced and know what they are doing and the programme has a great structure as you are learning skills while making something that you can keep.
I receive the support that is needed from my trainers, we are advised to do what feels right and if there is a problem it is brought up in a meeting.
we receive plenty of support from the manager as he asks us how we are doing often, the trainers give us the support we need, if it is needed.
I have enough money for a first year apprentice to live with my parents and pay for travelling costs.
there are so many opportunities with BAE systems, there are many events that we can attend or compete in, there are activities such as a week away, the German exchange and the princes trust.
Yes
It is a great apprenticeship which people should apply for and experience what I have experienced with a friendly environment and to learn plenty of new skills along the way.
To revise hard for the online test, to practise interview questions before you come and to relax on the day, work hard if you get on the course.
