Control and Instrumentation Apprentice Review

Control and Instrumentation Maintenance Apprentice. This involves calibrating different systems on site for example - switches, gauges, transmitters. There is preventative maintenance, and break down maintenance. The everyday work that i carry out is usually to prevent that plant from shutting down. However there are also defects that we come across and have to fix. Internally interactions are with my team, team leader and other teams like engineering for defects and important jobs. There is also the communications with Central Control Room if the job interacts with certain systems. Not many external interactions. Our responsibilities are to ensure that the work that is carried out is to a certain quality which s an expectation. It is important to check for any hazards before carrying out a job and follow a specification and do what is required to complete a job. At the end of that job it is important to sign off the card and give an necessary comments about the job that has been carried out.

Gained NVQ level 3, BTEC level 4. There are a lot of internal training courses that are good to get involved in. There was an AGR Course that took place in Barnwood that I attended. I have learnt so much about the power station but there is still so much to learn. As i come out of my time it will be the key part of learning my job as i will be going out and undertaking jobs on my own.

I really enjoy work there's a lot of experiences that are great to do. My team is very friendly and I get along with them well. I didnt really know what to expect when i got the apprenticeship, but it has definitely exceeded my expectations. And i definitely enjoy coming to work.

Yes I feel very valued, I have one on one meetings with my team leader, and encouragement from management. I completed a project in February which was quite a big project. I really enjoyed it, and managers congratulated me on how well i had done.

The program is very well organised, it is all planned out and there is nothing in the 4 years training wise which is not clear. All of the support is there and I cant give any faults in the organisation part of the apprenticeship.

I am happy with my salary it is very good especially in comparison to other apprenticeships.

I think it is a great company and a good job for life. I really enjoy my job and am taken care of.

Ensure you look at the tests beforehand. If there is an interview, learn as much as possible on the company. Try to get some work experience.
