I am an audit associate. I assit in the completion of an audit. My tasks vary from testing debtors, creditor, etc. to walking through different systems.
So far I am partway through my CFAB exams; part of the ICAEW qualification. I have passed two of these six exams and will complete the remaining four between August and December. Since working at EY I have found that my organisatonal and excel skills have improved; I have learnt new formula and process on excel. I also feel more confident when addressing the client.
I really enjoy my job. There is always new work to do which means there are always new challenges. Every team I have worked in so far have been really supportive and helpful as well as my other fellow school leavers.
I always feel valued my team and team leaders. I am treated as an equal to them whilst they still understand that my knowledge is not as extensive as theirs.
The induction was great as it allowed us to meet all the school leavers and to learn more about EY and the programme itself. We then did some basic training to allow us to understand our job role and then this was further developed at college as we studied for our first two exams. I fully understand how the CFAB exams are set out but am unsure of how my ACA exams will be set out. I'm also not too sure on how over the five year course my job role and responsibilities will change.
At the time of exam I found that Kaplan were very helpful. I was able to see Tutors as often as I needed. However the online content was a bit repetitive and could be improved.
EY were very good about ensuring that we had a good two week tutor session to learn the context and then covered the costs of any extra tuition we needed outside of this with our Kaplan tutors. This enabled me to get help as and when I needed it.
As I am still currently living at home the salary is more than enough for me. It allows me to pay my phone bill, insurance and livery/food for my Horses whilst still allowing plenty left over for savings and social events.
There are always a variety of office events going on throughout the year that anyone can choose to partake in. As well as that School Leavers and Graduates come together outside of work for events such as meals. I've also been able to join the ambassador team who work with the Student Recruitment team. This allows me to help at events such as Careers fair and the EY Arcade competition.
Yes
I would recommend it to any one who is interested in Accountancy and doesn't want to go to University. I personally believe that this is a great scheme with plenty of growth opportunities in it.
If you are unsure if this is right for you then take the time to look further into it. Take you time deciding and with the application process. If necessary ask for help from your parents, teachers and anybody at EY. The school teams are friendly and extremely helpful. Prepare for the assessment days and interview by learning more about what they involve.
