my job title is a Technical Officer which includes tasks such as calibration, various measurement tasks, data inputting and annalists. I work in part of a team which improves productivity. I also have to communicate with the calibration company regularly. I have responsibility for my own safety and the safety of other both on and off the track. My projects include assignments and calibration. Every day I have to check to see if I have any important emails and reply to them accordingly.
I have Gained Level 2 and 3 ILM qualifications, level 2 and 3 NVQ in engineering and railway engineering. I have done many internal qualifications that have helped to give me a better understanding of the railway. I have not done any external qualifications as of yet. I have gained skills of my phonetic alphabet and the general railway safety. I have learnt how most maintenance activities are carried out and feel comfortable in leading these if requested.
I enjoy the program including the work set as it has helped me to meet deadlines. I also enjoyed working in a team as there is always help if needed. I enjoy the efficiency in the company culture. this apprenticeship has met my expectations and more. I have genuinely enjoyed my time with network rail.
my manager has helped me when needed and I also help him out as he makes me feel valued. All the teams treat me with respect and recognise me as a employee instead of a apprentice. recognition from the calibration collector is the same as any other employee. I get involved with task and projects where I can. I feel a valued employee by everyone I work with.
the program is very well organised and we have lots of notice of task or training that need to be completed which help to plan within the teams days to do apprenticeship tasks. there is 121 weekly meeting that help to set goals and develop yourself. overall the apprenticeship was organised very well.
the training provider gave lots of support. if I had a problem I knew I could ask for help with the training provider as they was very welcoming. I enjoyed the college side of the apprenticeship.
all employees help me with my work where they can and fully support me from my line manager to HR team. I also gain a lot of mentorship once completing competences.
the salary is very good for an apprentice but still not good up to the salary of regular employees. the first 8 months they pay for your living cost also.
there are a few opportunities outside of work such as football but I personally haven't taken part in these.
Yes
because it is a good opportunity and there is plenty of opportunities to move up though the business and build a career
I would just say to be yourself as this will help to relax yourself. you will have opportunities to develop yourself during the apprenticeship.
