My role at virgin media is a access planner. This involves the planning process of providing circuits to business customers. Part of my job is going on surveys and interacting with our customers to find out the information needed to complete the planning packs. The other part of the job is compiling the information and planning how we are going to serve them.
I am working towards a level 3 in ICT and telecommunications. I have also attended multiple internal and external training courses which have allowed me to obtain extra qualifications that I can put on my CV and take with me further on in my career.
I am really enjoying my apprenticeship program, it has allowed me to learn a new skill, gain experience, and earn a excellent wage all at the same time. I believe I have made the correct decision over choosing an apprenticeship over university.
I do feel like I am valued whilst at virgin media. I am being given a good amount or responsibility within the job role and there is always assistance if it is ever needed. A lot of time and effort is being put into us apprentices.
I do believe that the apprenticeship is well structured, however I think that this needs to be improved to give the apprentices more of an insight to the program and what they will be learning along with a time frame.
My mentors put in as much effort as they can in order to provide us with the correct training. Whenever I have a problem, they are always happy to help and support me when it is needed.
My employer is always happy to support me and guide me in my development and training. Discussions are always being made for further education in order to help us progress after we have completed the current apprenticeship.
At the age of 18, I believe that I am receiving a excellent salary and the perks of the job are on the same lines. Location is not too far away from home which is nice. Whenever I need to travel away from the office, Virgin Media pay for all of my travel and expenses.
There are opportunities to work outside of work, however I do not have a great knowledge of these. If deadlines are needed to be met, I will work on my coursework at home, but this has never been necessary.
Yes
It has been a great opportunity for me to take as I have come straight from sixth form. However I do believe that this is also a great opportunity to take no matter your age or situation.
When applying for the job, try not to be dull and generic. Make sure to stand out and try to be a bit different. Don't stress out on the application process, it will be an enjoyable experience and the people running it will make it a calm experience.
