My role involves the preparation of Private clients tax returns and giving tax based advise to clients on there worldwide incomes. Job tasks change day by day with the interaction with different clients.
I have developed many new skills and learnt many new things in my role here. Tax as a broad subject is incredibly complex, especially in the UK and it is interesting to learn more about the processes involved. I have also been working towards my ATT qualifications.
I really enjoy my work and find it incredibly interesting as well as rewarding. There is a lot of client interaction which can make work it vary day by day. I also work very well with the people who also work here, and have formed bonds of friendship with many of them.
I feel very valued by Smith and Williamson as it is a company that is very keen on investing into the future, and supplying me with the tools and information to climb as high as I can within the profession.
The programme is very well structured in the sense that I know what I am working towards and the dates for my exams and qualifications are very clear. To an extent I am left to my own devices within work and have to structure my work myself, which is what I prefer as I have control of the work I am involved in.
I get a reasonable amount of support from my training provider; I go to tuition sessions frequently to learn more towards my qualifications. I also have many revision packs and support through paper work given to me to help me revise.
I receive a lot of support from my employers, they give me plenty of time to study and help with getting to tuition sessions in London and elsewhere. They are very keen for me to succeed in my studies.
My salary meets my costs very well, as I currently am not in need of a huge amount of money. I am still paid well in my opinion for an apprenticeship.
Smith and Williamson are very keen on activities and events outside of work to promote bonding and networking between peers. We regularly have trips to the pub or do events such as quizzes or go bowling.
Yes
I am proud of the work that I and others do at Smith and Williamson and I believe it is too a high standard, so if a friend required financial or tax based services I would gladly recommend Smith and Williamson to them.
Make sure that you learn about the company and everything it stands for before applying. Smith and Williamson is an amazing place to work, and for client interaction a bit of character is key, so show your personality in interviews or assessment days.
