I work in BT Television where I help provide various content for testing our networks and systems. This involves upgrading and looking after the delivery network and providing assistance to testers and designers in developing new ways to enhance our TV experience.
I have learnt a lot of skills over the past 7 months since starting my degree. I have developed coding skills, network knowledge, and an abundance of computer skills.
I absolutely love working at BT and the programme is amazing. Every morning I wake up and genuinely look forward to starting work and getting the most out of the day. The effort BT puts into looking after us makes me want to show them how much I value my position there and want to do the best work I can.
I feel incredibly valued and really looked after by everyone at BT. An apprentice is not there to make tea, they are there to learn about their roles and treated like any other employee.
Incredibly well. We are looked after and encouraged to talk to our managers as well as a dedicated apprentice team with anything we may be having issues with. I have yet to encounter a problem with my course.
A lot. We have a dedicated apprentice team, as well as an assigned apprentice coach. My line manager also developed the course so we can always rely on him for help. The university is also a source of bountiful Knowledge, and they are in constant contact about how we can progress whilst outside of the university environment.
A lot. A lot. We have a dedicated apprentice team, as well as an assigned apprentice coach. My line manager also developed the course so we can always rely on him for help.
The salary is modest in the first year, but as we progress through our apprenticeship, we are paid a generous wage. Travel is not a problem as I live only down the road and there is ample parking.
we are always contacted about opportunities to learn outside of work. We are given dedicated days to do charity work, there is a gym which is discounted for employees, and there is a lot of social activities to attend.
Yes
Because they value their apprentices and pay a decent wage. You are also given a lot of responsibilities which mean you are really learning and developing experience throughout your time with BT. You are also guaranteed a job at the end.
Show your willingness to learn. Be talkative and show why you should be chosen. It is actually harder to get an apprenticeship at BT than it is to get into Oxford or Cambridge. They want to know that you want to be there and want to learn. Show that you are an interesting person and mention experiences where you have shown your curiosity and willingness to learn.
