My role is as a security analyst, this involves investigating potential vulnerabilities and working as part of a wider team to ensure the security of information systems.
I have learnt a massive amount of new skills and developed existing ones through a number of methods such as training courses and helpful team members, as well as learning as I complete the work.
I find the whole program extremely enjoyable, everyone that I work with is extremely friendly and attending uni is always very fun, although it is hard.
I feel that my manager and team really appreciate what I have been able to help the team with and they always try to help me to develop my skills and enhance my ability to complete work within the team.
The program has been very organised from the beginning, it started with an induction week where you could meet up with people in the same situation as you from all over the country. It is also very organised with regards to the time allocated to training, I know how much time I should have available for training and university work each week and can use as much of this as required. The only area where the apprenticeship is not as organised is with the NVQ work that we complete, as the government is currently changing things on the NVQ, it has left some confusion.
With any work completed at university, the lecturers and tutors are all very helpful and will assist you wherever possible. This is especially helpful if you are struggling on a particular subject.
When I am working, I feel that my apprenticeship coach is always there if I need her. It is also very easy to raise a case with HR should any assistance be required.
The salary is extremely reasonable for an apprenticeship and covers living costs comfortably, in addition to this there will be a pay rise after the 1st year to ensure it meets the living costs of everyone.
There are a number of events that you can get involved in outside of work, lots of teams have team activities nearby doing a wide range of things. There are also plenty of facilities such as sports clubs around the area.
Yes
I feel that it is a great company and since I have been here, there has been no hostility from anyone and everyone tries to help you to develop your skills.
During the application process, make sure that you have done your research before reaching face to face interviews. This is essential as turning up with a lack of knowledge of the company is a guaranteed way to not get the job. It is also important to try and show off any skills relevant to the role you are applying for.
