Apprentice aircraft maintenance engineer. Providing maintenance to aircraft at RAF coningsby. Daily tasks include removing and refitting components, carrying out functional tests and fault finding on the aircraft
I have developed my hand skills throughout the course as well as learnt about the regulations that come with aircraft maintenance.
The first year of the apprenticeship felt a little slow as everyone was excited to be working on the aircraft rather than do theory work. However the second year working on aircraft has gone well above my expectations. I have settled into my team very well and am happy to be working here
Appreciation from people such as my crew lead and the hangar manager is very positive. However people in HR seem to be fed up with us wanting to know if we will have a job after the apprenticeship is finished
The first year of the programme was a bit unorganised but improved towards the end. The second year has so far been extremely unorganised as our NVQ assessor has been off work for a few months so no new arrivals know what is going on
We receive a lot of support from the NVQ assessors when they are able to provide it. My crew lead and senior supervisor also provide me with a lot of support to complete my NVQ
Normally we don't get a lot from management or HR
The salary is what I would expect from the kind of work I am doing as an apprentice
So far I have no heard of any outside work activities and have also not heard of a way to join them
Yes
It is a really good apprenticeship to go through as you learn a lot about aircraft maintenance and get a lv3 extended diploma in aircraft maintenance.
Go in with an open mind and make sure you revise for the exam modules throughout the first year.
