Software Developer - On a daily basis I work on a team to develop software in a range of coding languages for internal use within BT. I interact daily with internal customers to develop systems that meet their exact needs and requirements for their own job roles.
I have gained new personal skills such as communication and teamwork as well as learnt professional skills in computing and software. I have studied at university to gain academic qualification in ICT and have studied in the workplace to gain qualifications in professional computer competence.
I enjoy my program and I have the opportunity learn new things on a daily basis and develop my own individual skills to further my career. My colleagues and I get on well and coming to work is fun each day. Our company poses a great culture to be part of, with out of work activities regularly taking place.
I am internal recognised as being part of the internal software development team. I am involved with all the projects my team get involved with and for this i receive many eCard of appreciation from my manager.
There is lots of structure to the apprenticeship. I attend university for one week every month for 6 months of the year and in the other 6 months of the year i use a study day each week to work on my NVQ units. Within my apprenticeship i have an organised rotation system that is designed to allow me chance to spend 3 - 6 months working on different teams across the business.
I get alot of support from my training provider at university as I spend a whole week focusing entirely on learning in the classroom enviornment. Outside of the university time I am also able to email and ring my tutors should i need any extra help. My NVQ coach is also on hand to support me in completing my on the job training and NVQ write ups.
My employee supports my needs well and provides me with apprentice insight trip sto locations across the business. They also provide me with one day of study each week where i can have time to write assignments away from my work desk.
Once bills, petrol and food have been purchased I have plenty of spare more to call my own at the end of each month. All my living, travel ad social costs are well covered/
Outside of work my team and I attend social gatherings, for example we go for meals, drinks out or attend team building programs. There is a volunteering scheme within BT which encourages us to use 3 operational days to go out of office and volunteering in our local area.
Yes
Its a great place to work full of friendly people and lots of learning and support. Many of my current friends have been made through this apprenticeship.
Just be yourself thoughout the interview process and try to mix with others at assessment days or inductions. Share you own experiences with others and network around. Most of all, just have fun.
