I am an Audit Trainee. My daily tasks are to perform testing on the material financial statement areas that I am tasked with. On a daily basis I interact with all levels of seniority of not only BDO but also for the client. My responsibilities consist of ensuring that the areas that I am testing are tested fully and that areas that are misstated are looked into.
I have inproved my skill set with communication both with members of the firm and clients, as well as my ICT skills on programs such as Excel and accounting systems. I have also had 3 exams for my CFAB qualification which I have passed first time.
I enjoy my program as it allows me to interact with more people who I wouldn't normally be able to. It also has expanded my knowledge of the accounting system and how to test the areas of the Financial Statements.
I think that BDO value their staff well. During my 7 months of working, I have received 2 awards one for internal help and one from a review from the Client. I think that this recognition at such a low level definitely makes me feel appreciated.
The structure of my Apprenticeship is very well maintained by BPP the apprenticeship provider. I think that the system used for coursework however could be improved to be more relevant to work that we have actually performed at the level I'm at (Essays on different behaviors in the workplace).
I receieve a quaterly phone call from BPP for a progress update where we discuss items that are still outstanding and how i'm getting on with my exams.
I have a quaterly meeting with my manager in order to discuss how I'm getting on with both my studies and the jobs that I work on. As well as this there are always people who I can speak to if I have any other issues.
The salary I receive is reflective of my first year status. It does cover my travel and daily costs, however I would not be able to comfortably afford to move out and cover living costs. As well as this, revision for exams takes up lots of time outside of work which is unpaid as per expectation.
We have lots of company events for things such as Summer outings, Christmas parties, and drinks on the last Friday of every month. As well as this, we are a member of SCASS so we are invited to attend the events that they throw on a regular basis.
Yes
It is a very nice company to work for where you feel appreciated for what you do. As well as this, the people who work there are all very friendly and easy to get on with.
Do your research into the business prior to coming for the interview. Be prepared to ask questions as well as answering questions about yourself and the business.
