My role is a voip network engineer, me and the team I work in provide a in house VOIP test team, to test new voip server software before its gets deployed
Loads, I get a university degree in network engineer and level 4 nvq in telecommuncations, and have got many internal qualifications and lots on the job training in, Linux, cisco, voip and vendor spefic products
In the first year everything was very overwhelming and even though is a lot of support coming straight from a levels and getting very structure teaching into a relaxed envoirment didn't really work for me but once I grounded and had responabilities you adapt
Yes, my manager makes me feel valued, and given that I have been chosen to take the lead on many projects shows that I am needed, along with internal recognition
There is a lot of governance in how the apprentices are developed which means there are lot of people working on this throughout BT this can lead to issues and problems being hard to resolve
My structured learning is at OUS and they provide a lot of support, and any issues which cannot be resolved by them can be sent to your apprentice coach
A lot, I get given study days to develop at uni and throughout the apprentship you are protected from the pressures of working life by your managers and other memebers of the team
For a first time job the pay is very good and compares well to other telecommunications companies, however my year group went through a pay review and is still on-going after 3 years, an example of governance being an issue in a huge organisation
There are lots of opportunies, from apprentice only events for charity to events to explore other parts of BT. You can also get involed in all other events, leisure, company wide and voluntary
Yes
You earn whilst you learn, earning a decent amount for the skills and qualifications you are provided with at the end.
They are looking for people who can work well in a team and not necessarily someone who knows everything or has a background in IT. They are also looking for someone who can pick things up and quickly be informed about a subject
