Within BAE systems, my role as an apprentice is to learn about different areas of the company through several different placements and perform relevant tasks and projects within each placement to aid my training and understanding.
Coming from school into my first professional job, I have learned a great deal of skills required for the workplace. General skills such as communication, organisation and team working have been developed significantly. Job specific skills have also been learned through training and on the job learning.
Throughout the programme, I have been challenged and pushed outside my comfort zone. I have enjoyed this experience as it has taught me a huge amount and allowed me to develop useful skills as well as confidence
Through regular reviews and updates, it is always ensured that I feel valued within the company and managers and course leaders seem genuinely interested to help and make sure I get everything I can out of the apprenticeship
So far the course structure has been very good and has introduced me to the company very well. Training and induction has been an important part of this at the beginning of my journey to make me feel at home within the business.
Throughout the course, there has always been support available whenever needed. Specific training has been provided and general problems and questions have been solved with enthusiasm
There are regular review meetings to ensure progress through the course is tracked. Leaders and managers are always available through e-mail or phone conversation and eager to help with any problems
The current salary is competitive and covers travel and living costs comfortably. The course also covers university course fees which is a bonus.
The company offers several extracurricular activities. There are sports teams and facilities. There are many volunteering and charity events. There is also a range of extra courses run to extend your professional development.
Yes
The course offers a great combination of experience and qualifications which will put you in good standing to be competitive in the future compared to others on the field.
It is a good idea to get some engineering experience which can be talked about during interviews to show your passion for engineering and how you can adapt and transfer skills to relevant areas.
