My job title is Assistant Senior within the audit sector and I help and lead on audit teams of a variety of clients. Every week I am at a different client site and it involves a lot of travelling.
I am training towards my ACA qualification by going to Kaplan college, and also developing internal audit and business skills through EY's internally run training courses.
I don't particularly enjoy the work I do but appreciate that the programme can lead to great roles in the future which I will enjoy. I like that most people in the office are young so the social aspect of the job is good.
EY are always keen to know your views on how you are doing, however sometimes do little about the feedback you give. Counsellors are good to talk to and make you feel valued.
It was fairly new when I started so it is still being changed to suit the needs of the new starters. The induction and training is well organised.
The tutors at Kaplan are really good and supportive and available all the time even at weekends if you need help which is really useful if you are worried about exams.
There are buddies and counsellors available as well as your managers on your audit teams which give you plenty of support during the programme whatever the issue is.
When you start you are not given enough to live completely independently as you need a car really for all the travel. Graduates are offered a grad loan of £7k to help set them up with rent or a car whereas school leavers are not offered this so it is difficult to live independently for the first few years. All travel costs are reimbursed.
Yes, there is a very active social life with the job because most people are a similar age at a similar position in life. We go out on a Friday night and play sports together after work.
Yes
It is a good company to work for, however it is better if you are a graduate so I have told my friends they are better off going to uni first before joining EY as you are paid enough to live.
Only apply if you are ready to enter the working world facing clients and talking to a lot of people, as this job requires confidence with people a lot more than a flare for maths and numbers.
