On a day to day basis my job role consists of servicing the turbine and occasionally troubleshooting any problems. I am put into a team everyday but generally these teams stay the same, this is good as it gives a great base for learning and improves my skills greatly when doing different and varied work such as this too.
I have learned many new skills since starting my job such as working on Electrical Systems and troubleshooting them, working on Hydraulic Systems and troubleshooting them and also how to work in such a close knit team everyday. I have also increased my skills on the computer too such as learning more about excel and microsoft packages.
Overall I would definitely say that I really enjoy my programme as I feel I get all the help and support I may need whenever I may need it, I also feel like the team I work within always give me help and support and have made me feel comfortable since day one. I would definitely promote joining this programme to anyone who is unsure of what to do as a career.
I feel very valued by Siemens as I have always been praised when I have done something very well but I have been thoroughly helped when I have needed it also, I have also been given many opportunities to help promote Siemens as a business which I feel is a big responsibility. I think that they value a lot of their staff and it definitely shows too.
My programme is very well structured and organized I feel because we are always given 10 weekly reviews and this can tell us where we are in terms of our progress and also how our chosen site feels about us which I find important as it can show me where I need to improve. My only suggestion would be for more progress reviews and feedback.
I feel I receive adequate support from my training provider as they will get back to us about queries we may have but sometimes I feel that they do not visit us regularly enough on site to see where we actually are in terms of progress etc. I like to get feedback from my tutors however i dont think i am currently getting enough which may be blocking me growing within the business
I receive a lot of support from my employer in regards to questions or queries I might have as our HR department are quick on getting back to us and also my line manager is very quick at getting back to us and helping us with any problems. There's nothing i can think of a suggestion to improve this which is always good to hear, I just hope this is kept up throughout my placements.
My salary more than meets my costs as I have my own home and can afford my living costs comfortably and also when I travel for business all of my travel expenses are paid for me which I feel is a great bonus as not many companies do this. I also know they offer wage increases and i think these are quite easy to achieve as an apprentice too
There are many opportunities outside of work for me as Siemens holds an annual Tech Conference which helps to tell all the technicians how the business is doing and also allows them to ask questions about any changes or worries they might have. We occaionally have social events too which go on in local pubs etc. and this is nice to go too with co-workers etc.
Yes
I feel that Siemens is a good company to work for as you aren't treated like a number most of the time, the salary is good and you are never made to feel inadequate. You can always ask any questions and when you do, you don't worry you may ask anything silly. I would highly recommend the scheme and promote it to local schools as its an overall top company.
I would say to others applying for Siemens to be yourself during the interview stage, be kind and dress smart and also during onboarding ask as many questions as you can; If you don't understand something or just generally need help with something, they will always answer to the best of their ability. They like people showing initiative and that they show they want the placement.
