I am an assistant tax advisor in the Innovation Incentives team. Daily, I calculate R&D claims on excel and attend client meetings. I work with large clients and it is very interesting.
I have learnt many new skills. I have learnt a lot of excel skills and presentation/client skills. I am studying towards ACA
I really enjoy my programme as I find the work interesting and I like my close knit team. I like the company culture
I feel valued by my team but I wouldn't say I feel valued by EY as a whole
The programme is really organised. This is because we have regular training and college is well organised. We are given study leave to revise for exams.
I think we get a lot of support from Kaplan and the tutors are usually very helpful. They are there to ask questions. However the classes have been quite large so it does not feel very personal
When I was in audit I didn't receive a lot of support. I think this is because you are always in different teams and people usually just look out for themselves. Since moving to R&D tax I feel appreciated and guided.
The salary meets my costs as I live at home and travel in to London. However, if I had to move in to London I feel that the costs would not cover living costs as London rent is so high
Yes, I have been to careers fairs and my team regularly have social events. My team also do a mud run every year. I also take part in business development and pursue new clients
Yes
I would recommend the school leaver programme as it is such a good opportunity to get the ACA qualification and have the work experience. However, I would not recommend joining audit to a friend as I don't believe people get treated very well in audit. This is not against EY as I am sure it is worse in the other big 4
I would advise others to really prepare for interviews by researching EY and vision 2020. For the assessment centres, I would say to show enthusiasm but not over bearing and arrogant.
