I work as part of the firm's tax practice. My day-to-day tasks can be vary but broadly this involves reading and interpreting tax legislation as a basis for providing advice to our clients via detailed memos or reports. I'm given a fair amount of responsibility in my role and I'm trusted to do a good job.
I'm training to qualify as a chartered accountant and I'm always learning new skills day to day. In particular, my writing and Microsoft Office skills have improved substantially since I've been at EY.
Very much - I find the work that I do to be interesting and the firm has a friendly and supportive culture which is reflected in my team and the people I work with.
I feel that the work that I do is appreciated by my managers but at a leadership level I'm not sure how valuable I am to the firm as a school leaver. The work that I do is identical to what a graduate would do, only I get paid a fair amount less.
My programme is very well organised and structured. College dates are planned well in advance, we are provided with a lot of internal training and I have mentor whose duties include supporting me in my career progression at EY.
A good amount of support. I attend college throughout the year and I have been provided with extensive online resources for revision while at home. Tutors are also freely available to offer additional support either by phone or via email.
A good amount of support. All of my tuition and professional qualification fees are paid for by the firm, as well as supplementary material to help with revision. As a school leaver we are also given study leave to revise before an upcoming exam.
My current salary package is sufficient to meet my travel, daily and social costs. However, it would be stretched if I wanted to live away from home.
The firm offers a broad range of networking, social opportunities, and volunteer work.
Yes
The firm has an inclusive culture and can offers very good career opportunities, both within the professional services sector or the wider financial services industry. Remuneration improves substantively post-professional qualification.
Be yourself during the application process and don't claim to have skills that aren't true. EY are looking for applicants with the potential to develop, not ready-made professionals. Be willing to grasp opportunities as and when they come up.
