  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • At Capgemini i am a software engineer. Day to day i work on personal projects in order to further my programming knowledge, while also shadowing and talking to other developers in the team to find out more about the systems. At this early stage (about 1 month in), i am just beginning to get involved in the team's projects, however i need to develop my programming knowledge before i can get too involved.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • While being at Capgemini i have already had the opportunity to sign up to an agile training course, as well as being given plenty of opportunity and freedom to try out what i'm learning within my own projects.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • So far I've really enjoyed working here, the work is relatively chilled and my team are all very approachable and supportive. Capgemini has far exceeded my expectations in terms of how everyone looks out for one another and supports each other, regardless of grade or rank, everyone's on the same team.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Capgemini?
  • It's difficult to say at such an early stage in my apprenticeship, however my manager seems keen to get me as involved in the teams projects as possible, while still allowing me time to develop my knowledge by myself.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme seems very well structured so far, everyone on the programme has been made aware of when key events are happening, as well as what is expected over the course of the apprenticeship. We have also all been made aware of the companies intranet, which is a brilliant resource. For training, we had a 10 week course which covered just about everything that we would need, however a few people felt as though this wasn't enough time to become familiar with certain topics; Capgemini have responded to this by giving us access to additional training courses on the subjects, as well as talking to us in order to find out where we needed additional support, i have been amazed at the amount of support that we have seen so far, Capgemini certainly looks after it's employees.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • Our training provider has been pretty good up to this point, they have given us access to a massive shared area, which contains a huge range of different programs and resources that we can use. In addition to this we have monthly meetings to check our progress, this also gives us chance to voice any concerns that we might have and whether we need additional support.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • As mentioned earlier, Capgemini really couldn't do any better when it comes to support. When your in the workplace, there is no competitiveness, everyone is looking out for each other and happy to help whenever someone needs it. What really surprised me was just how approachable the more senior members of staff are, even the department managers are happy to talk about any concerns that you might have and help where they can. In addition to all of this, we also have a monthly meeting with our apprenticeship manager so we can all voice our thought, opinions and concerns.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • Despite having to travel 60 miles a day, my wage still allows me to buy everything that i need and want, with some to spare. I honestly think that the apprentices are paid very generously at Capgemini.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are plenty of opportunities outside of work, just this month there's a volunteering opportunity for an event, as well as a football match taking place between the different departments. There are plenty of things that you can get involved in if you wanted to. To help with the issue of fitness Capgemini also has a gym within the building that you can use whenever you want.

  • 9. Would you recommend Capgemini to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Capgemini is probably one of the best employer's currently out there for IT. The amount of support, opportunities and flexibility, makes it feel as though your not at work, your part of a community.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Capgemini?
  • From my experience with the entire application process i would say to others, be professional, but don't put too much pressure on yourself, the whole process was relatively chilled and really nothing to worry about. The other thing i would say, is don't be afraid to ask questions; everyone in the recruitment team is incredibly helpful, they responded to any questions that i had within the same day and they even called me to make sure i was happy with everything, rather than simply emailing me back.
