CAD Technician, In my day to day life at Arup I typically use Microstation and AutoCAD to develop 2D and 3D drawings working with a wide range of engineers from graduates to senior. I am responsible for working on multiple projects and making sure that the drawings I am tasked with are done to the ARUP standard.
During my time at ARUP I have learnt lots of new skills through training that is provided by the company and the college. At college we are working towards a level 3 diploma and also an NVQ.
As an Apprentice I feel that the team I work in and in other departments area all very friendly people with a positive atmosphere this makes me enjoy coming into work and enjoy doing my job.
As an apprentice I feel very valued as the support and the network that is around us allows us to develop which means that our standard of work improves which in-turn leads to praise and recognition by those inside and outside of the company.
On starting at ARUP I felt like the company was very well organised as the induction and training was all done on the first day along with a 2 day course for all the apprentices. There are constant meeting to discuss progression and a well structured hierarchy to go to when needed.
I receive a bit of support from my training provider but this is mainly because it is not needed as I am able to get more and better support from my colleges at work.
I receive lots of support form my employer, my mentor is always on hand to answer any questions weather it is work or college related, the HR support is available to discuss progression and answer any work based questions and my managers have progress meeting with me to ensure that I am getting exactly what I require.
Yes it does it meets my standard of living and a bit more which is good as it means that I can afford to travel and go to social events.
Yes as a department we do lots of social events and company events to encourage a happier and friendlier environment for all to work in which has a positive effect on the work rate and health of everyone in the office.
Yes
I would recommend a friend as I feel it is one of the best company's to work for, I think this because the work environment is always friendly, everyone is valued and are not looked down at because of there grade.
Try to build up a base knowledge to show willing and then show off bits of what you know during the interview, also make sure that you know what you want to do in the near future and make it clear to the company.
