I am a business support apprentice and day to day tasks range from providing admin services such as printing, binding, reception. I also assist in security clearance, marketing and team specific secretarial duties
I have almost finished my level 2 in business admin and will be going on to do level 3 starting september. I have completed many training courses which has increased my level of skill in the work.
The Arup team are very friendly and easy to get on with, especially the other business support team members. Sometimes the engineers can find it hard to understand the difficulty and extent to projects and can sometimes have unrealistic expectations. The company and company culture are very good and it is a nice place to work in.
At Arup you often get recognition for the jobs that you do. Sometimes the work you do can go unnoticed.
There is alot of training and support for the program. However there doesn't seem to be much knowledge and idea from the company of the Apprenticeship program and that can leave both the employer and myself feeling confused about what will happen next. They are however very supportive and allow you to assist a wide range of disciplines and give you the option to work within one.
I have meetings with my trainer once a month and he is always available for support vis email or phone call. He provides guidance and support with any problems or tasks.
I have bi-monthly meetings with my mentor and she is incredibly supportive and helps me with any issues I may be having. She always listens and supports what I have to say and provides any assistance that I may need.
The salary that I get is higher than the standard apprentice wage, however with a lot of living costs such as food, travel to work and rent it can be tough to have much money for social events etc.
