My job title is applications consultant and I work on a range of different projects where I typically have different roles for each. I have had the opportunity to work in both functional and technical roles in implementing enterprise oracle systems. In my current role, I report directly to the project manager and work with contractors to configure the technical side of the system we are implementing. Typically, I work on site Monday-Thursday where I stay in hotels and work from home on fridays.
I learnt the basic skills of programming and how to work in a professional environment in the first 9 weeks of the accelerated learning environment (ALE). Since then, I have completed a 2 day business course and due to Capgeminis relationship with other corporations, I have excess to a lot of resources to further pursue my knowledge in technologies that I use. From being on projects, I have had hands-on experience with several corporate systems and the experience has been invaluable.
The programme is very enjoyable as there is now a big number of apprentices all in the same position as you! Sometimes, it can feel quite tiring when you are travelling, working and then have university to do in the evenings. There are many social activities that take place and the culture within the capgemini team is good; senior members are extremely helpful and will always offer their support as long as you ask!
This can be more subjective to each different project as project managers can very. Typically, any effort and hard work from your part is indeed recognized.
The structure of my programme is very clear and I have a clear plan of what I am doing all the way till the end of my degree apprenticeship.
Aston university are very helpful when you require their support. If I have an ongoing issue we have separate contacts for each module whom we can contact and they are very helpful!
A lot of support in the initial few months in the business to get you on your feet and learn the common business practices. After you have settled in, you are assigned a reviewer with whom you can raise any issues and have regular calls with to discuss anything of concern.
The salary is very good! As you progress and provided you work hard and exceed expectations in all areas then the salary increases rapidly. Coming upto two years in this programme and I could comfortable cover all living, travel, social and daily costs for myself.
There are occasional social activities such as christmas parties etc but this is more relevant to your project and business unit within capgemini and how social everybody is.
Yes
Very good programme, great experience, great salary and plenty of opportunities to advance!
Be yourself! Capgemini are not looking for students who already know everything tech but more so see a passion and dedication to strive and achieve in this industry and role.
