  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My day to day role involves me working as a team member for a worldwide organisation. I look after the Quality System which includes many quality databases within the company I work for, these databases include sorting out all documents (that's from creating, modifying, approving and editing the process of the documents. I also gather a lot of information from the system so our team can analyse the data. In the building I work in we run a 5S process which ensures we work in a clean, tidy and safe environment, I manage this process on the floor I work on so I assign colleagues to specific zones to be audited each month, at the end of every month I gather the audit scores and create charts, show our current trend of tidiness on our floor and set targets.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Cummins?
  • At stages I feel very important for the company because the colleagues I work with see the effort I put into work and see I am willing for more work everyday however sometimes I do not feel as important because the team I work with are far senior to me therefore I am given the simple tasks and when I provide the information I sometimes feel that my team do not yet feel comfortable to push me and progress me.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I believe the company I work for is a very organised and structured company as there is a process for almost everything we do within the company however the Quality System I work in can be maybe too organised as there are several processes/documents for one process, I believe this confuses many colleagues.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I believe my manager is enthusiastic to develop me when I see her however I believe she is very busy a lot of the time so many of our meetings are cancelled and I do not feel so comfortable to see her all of the time because I would be taking her focus of her work and on to me which I believe she may find this disturbing when she wants to get on with her work.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I and my manager have weekly meetings to ensure I am developing, enjoying and pushing myself, quite often these meetings are cancelled to my managers workload. We have currently moved seats so we now sit beside each other so I believe I will get more support from my manager.

  • 9. Would you recommend Cummins to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Cummins treats all employers equally and has a strict policy we must follow. If we do not follow these rules we will be punished so most of the employees around treat us as a friend and not just an employer they work with.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Cummins?
  • Within the interview I would say just be yourself but ensure you are well prepared for it. I have applied for the apprenticeship at Cummins twice and I feel on both occasions the interviewers may ask you questions you will not expect so just stay calm and answer the question the best you can. It would be good if you could provide some information you know so the interviewer can tell you have researched and seem very keen for the job. Always end with a positive and keep smiling within the interview so you look to be a very approachable and easy to connect with.
