I work for Capgemini and I was hired as a Degree Apprentice. My job title is that of a Test Analyst and I work on Capgemini's biggest account. My daily job includes the test design and execution of key systems to Capgemini's biggest client. I have to communicate with their developers when I find a bug/defect within the system to help investigate and analyse the problem. This allows me to interact with people not only within Capgemini but externally as well.
So far I've earned my ISTQB Foundation, which is an industry-wide software tester. Capgemini is more than willing to put me on the next level qualification so I'll be completing that soon. My Technical Skills have improved massively, I went from joining the company and not being able to Test and now I'm able to confidently test projects on my own after only a year! I'm now able to communicate confidently via phone, email and face-to-face. I can easily communicate my points and views in meetings and sometimes lead them if necessary. I wouldn't have imagined me doing things like that before I joined Capgemini!
I enjoy my program tremendously! It isn't exactly a walk in the park though! I have to work 9 - 5:30 and then go home and study towards my degree, however, it's worth it considering your degree is paid for, all the experience you receive and the fact you get paid to learn!
I feel extremely valued. I have monthly meetings with my internal reviewer who highlights what I'm doing well and what I can improve. This shows that Capgemini wants me to be the best I can be for them and for myself. I've received positive feedback from my Project Managers when a project finishes. The main reason I know I'm valued is the fact that they invested in me in the first place!
When I first joined I went through a two-month training course at Aston University where I was put up on the campus by Capgemini. After that, I started my full-time job within the business. I have scheduled online tutorials for my degree along with separate university days in the year where I go on campus for coursework and exams.
I receive the weekly tutorials. They also have drop-in sessions from which you can organise a call to talk to them about anything if necessary.
The manager on the Capgemini side is also quick to respond to any queries I have. He is also on hand if I have any issues and they're always looking to help.
You start on 10K annual when you do your two months training and then you move to 16K after the training. There is 4 times a year for you to potentially get a pay increase.
I've attended a STEM event outside of work due to a colleague within Capgemini. I've also been a part of Capgemini's team on the Brathay Challenge. A challenge focused on informing people and employees about the benefits of Apprenticeships.
Yes
Capgemini has given me opportunities I didn't have before. I'm now 100x more confident of my future than I was 1 year ago. I'll have a degree in 4 years with 5 years experience on my CV along with potentially being half way up Capgemini's career ladder!
Research the company. Take your time on your initial application. Relax and be yourself!
