I am a degree apprentice at Capgemini. My role is a Applications Consultant within the Oracle practice. My average day can vary a lot as this role give me the opportunity to experience a lot of roles such as technical development, project management and architecture to name a few I have done on my project.
Yes, I have of course learnt a lot from my degree course, specifically how to manage myself and improve my work life. As part of my job we also have to attend training course so I have learnt technical skills such as SQL and business skills such as process mapping. What I have also learnt working on client sites is extremely valuable. I have learnt lots of soft skills and how to deal with clients and managers.
I enjoy my programme a lot. My manager and delivery unit are extremely supportive of the degree and grant my study leave requests whenever I need them. As expected it is very hard work working full time with a degree but it has been very manageable to the extent I am attempting to complete the degree in three years as would a normal student.
I feel very valued by Capgemini, as a apprentice we are given quarterly reviews instead of the standard mid/end of year. This allows for more progression. We also have a internal recognition system 'Applaud' which gives manager and more senior people to recommend you to be given voucher bonuses for hard work. I also feel my opinion is valued, I have moved team a couple of times in my short time here to find what suits me best.
The programme is structured to a good standard. I am on the new CMDA degree course which is brand new, so of course we have had some hiccups as you might expect running anything for the first time. Both the university and Capgeminis apprenticeship team have dealt with this quickly and effectively.
We receive as much support as we want. We have standard lectures which we must attend but also we can arrange out of hours meeting with our lecturers as a distance learner. I have also had calls with a lecturer on a Sunday night the day before a submission with last minute questions.
My employer is just as supportive. we are given over 20 study days a year on top of our standard annual leave. They also respect our study leave and will not contact us on it for work purposes unless urgent. We are also given hotels and can leave early if we have early lectures and are travelling to client sites.
The salary started low but quickly increased. From knowing other people on apprenticeships the salary is competitive but you have a very high potential for once you have finished the apprenticeship.
Capgemini have lots of company events and activities such as charity sports events, awards nights and we also have them all over the country. We even get to go to events because of our degree. As a CMDA student we are invited to Chartered Management Institute events.
Yes
It is a great company offering a great course. The guidance and help I have got now will be extremely valuable later in my career.
Capgemini isn't looking for complete A* students. Capgemini is looking for people with a passion for IT and Business as they know if you are passionate about your work you will succeed. You need to be outgoing as some of the roles are very client facing. I would like to have been told interviews aren't as scary as you think they will be! Don't get yourself worked up before hand!
